The popular attraction at Muswellbrook’s Highbrook Park Playground will be closed for cosmetic surgery from March 18 and reopen on April 15.
During the stoppage, Larry will get a new paint job on his neck and the sand surrounding the body will be removed and replaced with rubberised softfall.
And, during the procedure, the toddler’s playground and other parts of the playground remain open.
Funded by a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, Larry’s upgrade is one of many ongoing projects in the Highbrook Park Playground.
A shade cloth over the toddler play area was installed late last year and a new amenities block, with toilets and barbecue, was completed recently.

The Stronger Country Communities Fund delivers crucial local infrastructure to improve the quality of life of people in regional NSW, with funding provided to councils for local projects such as parks, community halls, playgrounds and amenity blocks.
At 10 metres tall and 70 metres long with a “tongue” slide back to the ground, Larry is popular with the bolder visitors to the playground.
Other activities include a “learn to bike” track, flying fox, swings climbing ropes and mazes.
Toilets, water bubblers, barbecue facilities, picnic benches and undercover seating make Highbrook Park Playground a popular destination for local families.
Muswellbrook Shire Council apologises for any inconvenience during this time and thanks residents for their cooperation.
